What you can do

• Send and receive text messages, voice notes and files.
• Use separate accounts, search your local history, filter chats and find starred messages.
• Create and manage groups within the permissions of your account.
• Read followed channels and manage communities, members, groups and their addition permissions.
• Add contacts to WhatsApp or your phone address book and choose any emoji in the reaction picker.
• Lock the app manually or after inactivity and unlock with your password or Windows Hello.
• Keep your drafts when you switch conversations or restart the app.
• Get notifications with the group, sender and message, respecting muted conversations.

Recent updates

Choose English or Romanian and how much detail your screen reader announces. Consecutive voice notes play one after another. If a message has no delivery confirmation, a recoverable copy is kept in the unconfirmed messages section, where you can read, copy or restore it.

Calls and current limitations

Audio and video calls are enabled by default. If you previously disabled them, that setting is kept. The camera stays off until you turn it on separately. Call compatibility and quality can vary by phone and network. Group calls and call links are not supported. WhatsApp statuses remain incomplete. Meta AI for attachments is unavailable in this client. Public usernames will be tested when WhatsApp provides them to the account. Search covers the history synced to this computer. Some screens from the older client are not yet available.

Installation and updates

1. Download and run the installer. It installs the app for your current Windows user.
2. Open WhatsApp from the Start menu. On first use, link your phone in the app.
3. For future releases, open More options → Updates.

The app can check for updates automatically. Download and installation begin after you confirm. The update is verified before files are replaced, and your profile and drafts are stored separately.

If an in-app update fails, download the installer here, close WhatsApp using More options → Exit, then run the installer.

Uninstalling removes the app and its shortcuts. Your profile, local conversations and drafts are kept.

The installer contains no connected WhatsApp accounts. Each person links their own phone on a new computer. Account data stays in their Windows user profile.

For manual installation, extract the entire ZIP into a dedicated folder you can write to, then open WhatsAppClassicNative.exe.
